In summer 2019, the members of Abundant Life worked together to define who we intend to be. The statements below define who we are. In addition, they are a testimonial to our effort to become a functioning intentional community.
A safe, intentional, neurodiverse, Christian cohousing community. Inspired by Christ’s love, designed for acceptance, built for peace of mind.
We are building relationships and living spaces for people with disabilities and their families which promote:
We value Christ-centredness. Jesus’ love for us is the model and basis for the relationships in our community.
We seek to honour him in outward expressions and in our community life.
We value social connection, especially for those in our community who struggle to initiate it for themselves.
We are creating opportunities for intentional and accidental social interaction, while ensuring that each person can choose solitude as well. We seek to grow our community into a thriving extended family by sharing joys, sorrows, fun, supervision, and resources.
We value neurodiversity. We affirm that every person bears the image of God.
We work actively to understand and meet the needs of people in our community who require extra support and understanding.
We value security. Our community provides protection from isolation, abuse, and housing uncertainty,
especially for the most vulnerable among us.
